How "Your jewish journey" began
Your Jewish Journey prayer and blessings cards were created by a Jewish mom, Amy Dow, who had no religious education growing up. After the birth of her son, she began taking classes at various synagogues to learn what it meant to be Jewish. The more she learned about her heritage, the more Amy felt her Neshama (Jewish soul) ignite. Despite all this new found spirituality, Amy was often frustrated with the difficulty of learning the Hebrew blessings.
While taking classes at a Christian university for her Master’s Degree in counseling, Amy looked on with admiration as she watched how simple it was for her classmates to pray. This fueled Amy’s longing to find an easier way for her to participate in her faith. Knowing she was not alone, Amy decided to create a set of cards that would make it easier for anyone to bring basic Jewish prayers and blessings into their lives and homes.
Working with Chabad Rabbi Menachem Muskal, the first set of cards was created. An instant success, temples and agencies nationwide began ordering sets for gifts and fundraisers. The Chanukah card was even included in care packages for overseas Jewish soldiers.
After numerous requests for Jewish Prayer & Blessing Cards, Amy enlisted the help of Reform Rabbi Yaron Kapitulnik. At the time, his temple was writing a new Torah scroll and Rabbi Kapitulnik wanted “something” special for people “who were moved by the experience of scribing a letter in the Torah, to have a way to carry the sense of sacredness with them as they returned to their homes -- something they could actually use, something that would remind them of the occasion, something that would allow them to keep developing and enriching their own Jewish journeys.”
It is the hope of Amy, Rabbi Muskal and Rabbi Kapitulnik that these cards will be a springboard for people to delve deeper into their own Judaism.
We wish you all the best as you start or continue your own Jewish Journey!
